DID YOU
KNOW?
** Every time it erupts, Old
Faithful in Yellowstone National
Park spurts up to 8,000 gallons of 199-degree water about
140 feet into the air.
** Halloween was originally a Celtic holiday celebrated
on October 31. It was brought to North America by immigrants
from Europe who would celebrate the harvest around a bonfire,
share ghost stories, sing, dance and tell fortunes.
** ISBN stands for "International Standard Book Number."
The ISBN is a 10-digit identification system that allows
booksellers and libraries to easily differentiate between
books and other media when ordering. The ISBN refers to
the specific edition (e.g., trade paperback, mass market
paperback) and is usually located on the back of the book
and on the copyright page.
** A baseball player trying to hit a 90-mile-per-hour
pitch must begin his swing a quarter of a second after the
ball is released.
** Diamonds are rare: an average of 350 tons of ore must be
mined and processed to find an uncut diamond large enough to
cut a single one-carat polished diamond. Of all the diamonds
mined, only 20 percent are even suitable for jewelry.
** From birth to adolescence, selected bones in the human body
fuse together. The last bone to fuse is the collarbone, and
this occurs between the ages of 18 and 25.
** The game Scrabble is found in one out of every three American
homes.

OLLIE'S
SILLIES
Man to his wife...."I'm not going to school
today. The
teachers don't like me, the kids call me names, even the
janitor's rude to me."
Wife: "Don't be silly. You have to go. I'll give you two
good reasons why."
Man: "What are they?"
Wife: "One, you're forty years old; and two, you're
the principal."
