DID YOU KNOW?

** The storied history of the Wisconsin State Fair began in
1851 when the first Fair was held in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Approximately 8,000 - 12,000 people attended the first State
Fair for the admission price of 10¢.

** In the 1920s, Paul S. Crawley opened an ice cream parlor
in Shanghai and sold over one million Eskimo Pies in the
first year of operation.

** In October 1995, the potato became the first vegetable
to be grown in space. NASA and the University of Wisconsin,
Madison, created the technology with the goal of feeding
astronauts on long space voyages, and eventually, feeding
future space colonies.

** Moist air holds heat better than dry, which is why nights
in the desert are cool while nights in the humid tropics are
torrid.

** On Aug. 11, 1919, a score or more husky young athletes,
called together by Curly Lambeau and George Calhoun, gathered
in the dingy editorial room of the old Green Bay Press-Gazette
building on Cherry Street and organized a football team. They
didn't know it, but that was the beginning of the incredible
saga of the Green Bay Packers.

** Early mattresses were filled with straw and held up with
a rope stretched across the bed frame. If the rope was tight,
sleep was comfortable. Hence the phrase, "sleep tight."

** A cat uses its whiskers to determine if a space is too small
to squeeze through. The whiskers act as feelers or antennae,
helping the animal to judge the precise width of any passage.

** Australia is home to 350 different kinds of butterflies.

you can't!
