 DID YOU KNOW?

** Easter, which celebrates Jesus Christ's resurrection from
the dead, is Christianity's most important holiday. It has
been called a moveable feast because it doesn't fall on a set
date every year, as most holidays do. Easter is said to derive
its name from the old English word Eostre, a northern goddess
of spring. It was traditionally a time of rejoicing that growing
things were reborn in spring. The Christian festival was
 superimposed onto this.

** The Milwaukee Brewers, an organization formed by Allan H.
"Bud" Selig and Edmund Fitzgerald, acquired the Seattle Pilots
franchise on April 1, 1970. The team played their first game at
home on April 7 and won their first game in Chicago on April 11.

** The majestic Niagara Falls, popular honeymoon site for
newlyweds located in both New York Ontario, was named after the
Mohawk Indian word meaning "thunder of waters". Though of great
volume, Niagara Falls has parallel drops of only 158 and 167 feet.

** Barbie® and Ken® Dolls are named after Mattel founders
Ruth and Elliot Handler's son and daughter, Barbara and Ken.
Barbie's® full name is Barbie Millicent Roberts, and she
is from Willows, Wisconsin. First sold in 1959, Barbie®
wasn't given bendable legs until 1965.

** The word broccoli comes from the Italian word "brocco,"
 which means branch or arm.

** Jews all over the world celebrate Passover in commemoration
of their liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt, and the
'passing over' of the forces of destruction over their homes
as the Angel of Death spared the first born of the Israelites
 on the eve of Exodus.

** In 1893, Chicago hired its first police woman. Her name
was Marie Owens. While the city was progressive in its
hiring practices, Chicago's female police officers were not
allowed to wear uniforms until 1956.

** Chocolate was once considered a temptation of the devil.
In Central American mountain villages during the 18th century,
no one under the age of 60 was permitted to drink it, and
churchgoers who defied the rule were threatened with excommunication.

 OLLIE'S SILLIES

Late one night in the Washington, D.C. area a mugger wearing
a ski mask jumped into the path of a well-dressed man and
stuck a gun in his ribs.

"Give me your money," he demanded.

Indignant, the affluent man replied, "You can't do this - I'm
 a US Congressman!"

"In that case," replied the robber, "give me MY money!"
